The Lavender Boys
Our story
Who wanted to experience farm life more, or whose idea it was to plant lavender fields, has been a hotly debated topic, but nevertheless a shared passion has developed and fully set in. We welcome you to join us on this wild and crazy adventure as The Lavender Boys.
Jonathon Strauss
Having grown up in the US Midwest, with a green thumb from the beginning and a bit of a Tom Sawyer mindset, Jonathon is thrilled to be focussing attention on the farm and broader business.
With an undergrad in music performance & political science, a masters in international law & international relations, and a doctorate of higher education management, Jonathon has spent nearly two decades working in the world of education and not-for-profit.
After 15 years living and working in Sydney, Australia and then London, UK, it was time to find a way to spend more time in the great outdoors and connect with the land. The Birramal Estate provides that perfect opportunity.
Nick Esdaile-Watts
With his first entrepreneurial endeavour kicking off at the ripe old age of 10 (a lucrative trade in marbles on the playground), Nick has always sought out and embraced new opportunities and challenges.
After completing his undergraduate in industrial design and a masters of commerce (marketing), Nick turned his mind to the finance world - working for one of the biggest banks in Australia. But he’s also longed for the opportunity to apply his creativity in a setting with heaps of fresh air and natural beauty.
While the farm will certainly keep him endlessly busy, Nick is likely to still find spare time for his love of arts & crafts, including candle and wreath making, as well as new product design and testing.
more than a name, it's a promise.
Affectionately known by those they love as “the boys”, Jonathon and Nicholas have taken the name one-step further.
During a roadside chat with a neighbour, through the windows of their utes, the boys discovered that they quickly gained notoriety in the Valley as being 'The Lavender Boys'.
"The Lavender Boys have bought a tractor!“ she said to her husband.
After another passing conversation, the boys have decided to take on the name because when you throw "lavender" into the mix and it becomes something more than a name, it's a promise.
Who are The Lavender Boys without a lavender farm?
